Between clients, wipe the mirror-polished blades from pivot to tip with a folded soft cloth, keeping fingers behind it and away from the edge. Remove colour, bleach, developer or perm solution on contact, then rinse and dry if the product label directs.

Oil the clean, dry pivot with a drop or two of maker-approved scissor oil. Work the blades and wipe away excess, then use the supplied key in small steps and repeat the drop test. New scissors may need early re-tensioning as the washer seats.

A convex edge goes only to a sharpener who works convex scissor geometry on water-cooled scissor equipment, or back to the maker. Never home-hone a convex edge: a stone, a strop or a knife sharpener flattens the hollow inner face and the ride line, and once that geometry is ground away it does not come back.

A left-handed build goes to a sharpener with verified left-handed experience or back to the maker.

Never case a damp pair. A closed case holds water and chemical residue against the steel, so the blades and the pivot are dried completely before the scissors go back in the case.
