    Find your size

Scissor length is measured tip to finger-rest. The right size comes down to your hand and the work you do most — here's how the pros choose.

    5.0–5.5″
Precision & detail Palm under 7 cm · point cutting, fringe and texture work.
    5.5–6.0″
All-round salon Palm 7–8 cm · the professional standard for everyday cutting.★ Most popular
    6.0–6.5″
    Barbering & over-comb Palm 8–9 cm · faster sectioning, scissor-over-comb control.
    6.5–7.0″
Grooming & blending Palm over 9 cm · longer reach for barber and grooming work.
Rule of thumb: between sizes, size down for control and detail, up for speed and scissor-over-comb. Still unsure? Our team will match you in minutes.

    ORIGIN Made in Japan

The Juntetsu Kenshi is a premium Japanese cutting scissor in ATS-314 cobalt steel, with a sword-profile blade, an ultra-sharp convex edge, and a smooth ball-bearing tension system. It is available in 5.75 and 6.75 inch sizes for right-handed cutting.

    • Description

Kenshi means swordsman in Japanese, and the name fits the blade. This scissor sits at the top of the Juntetsu cutting range, pairing a premium cobalt steel with a strong, tapered sword-profile blade built for stylists who cut with power and want an edge that stays keen between sharpening visits.

    ATS-314 cobalt steel

ATS-314 is a cobalt-rich Japanese stainless steel valued for its hardness and long edge retention, hardened here to around 62-63 HRC. The higher hardness lets the blade take and hold an exceptionally sharp convex edge, which is why this steel sits above standard stainless options in the range.

    Sword profile blade

The blade is ground to a slim, tapered sword profile that stays strong through the spine. That combination of a fine edge and a rigid body suits powerful cutting techniques, including deep slice cutting, slide cutting and dry cutting, where a thinner blade would flex.

    Ball-bearing tension

The Juntetsu ball-bearing adjustment screw gives a smooth open-and-close action and holds its setting through repeated use, so the tension you set stays consistent through the day. Steady tension is what keeps a convex edge cutting cleanly rather than folding or pushing hair.

    Sizing

This model runs slightly longer in the blade than the number suggests. The 5.75 inch handles like a 6.0 inch in the hand, and the 6.75 inch handles like a 7.0 inch, so choose the size by the feel you are used to. The 5.75 inch suits all-round salon cutting, while the 6.75 inch gives extra reach and leverage for scissor-over-comb and barbering.

    • Frequently asked questions

What do the sizes mean, and why "feels like"?
The measurement is the actual blade length. Because of the blade profile and balance, the 5.75 inch feels like a 6.0 inch in use and the 6.75 inch feels like a 7.0 inch, so pick the size by the feel you already cut with.

How is ATS-314 different from VG-10?
ATS-314 carries more cobalt and is hardened a little higher, so it holds a sharp edge longer. It sits at the premium end of the range, above the VG-10 models.

Is this scissor available for left-handed stylists?
This model is built as a right-handed scissor. If you need a true left-handed pair, contact our team before ordering and we will let you know the current options.

How do I care for a convex edge?
Wipe the blades clean and dry after each client and add a drop of scissor oil at the pivot regularly. Convex edges should only be sharpened by a sharpener trained on convex blades, never on a flat-hone service.

    Where is it made?
The Kenshi is made in Japan from Japanese ATS-314 steel.

    The steel decides the cut

Hardness, edge retention and feel all start with the alloy.

Japanese scissor steels trade hardness for resilience. Higher-carbon alloys such as VG-10 hold a razor edge longer between services; cobalt alloys add corrosion resistance and a silky closing action; 440C is the proven workhorse — tough, forgiving and easy to maintain. Hardness is measured on the Rockwell scale (HRC): most professional Japanese scissors sit between 58 and 62 HRC.

    How this pair cuts

Edge geometry decides technique — and maintenance.

Semi-convex Sharp yet forgiving — the versatile all-rounder, easier to maintain than full convex. This pair

Sword blade 剣刃 ken-ba Ridged spine adds power through thick, dry sections and scissor-over-comb work. This pair

    Keep the edge

Wipe the blades dry after every cut. Oil the pivot weekly with a drop of scissor oil, open and close gently, and store dry in the case. Avoid cutting anything but hair — and book a professional service if the edge ever pushes or folds.
