JAPAN SCISSORS UK TERMS AND CONDITIONS

FOR BUYING PRODUCTS AND BROWSING OUR WEBSITE

Welcome to Japan Scissors UK.

In these terms, we also refer to Japan Scissors as 'our', 'we', or 'us'. And you are you!

Important Notice: International Seller

Japan Scissors is an Australian company. When you purchase from us:

  • You are importing goods from Australia or Japan into the United Kingdom
  • In-stock orders are normally processed in 1–2 business days; on-order items follow their product-page availability.
  • Delivery depends on the selected service, product availability and destination; see our shipping information.
  • We handle all import duties and VAT — no surprise charges on delivery
  • You are contracting with a non-UK business
  • You retain all UK consumer rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015

DISCLAIMER

Japan Scissors strives to provide the best premium scissor products and accessories at affordable prices. If you use or purchase a Product, please note that:

(a) General Information: Any information on the Website is general information only, not adapted to your specific circumstances.

(b) Safety Precautions: Products should be used safely and appropriately at all times. Caution should be taken when using the Products, and the Products should not be used by children or persons under 18 years of age.

(c) Illegal or Harmful Use: Products should not be used for any illegal, improper or harmful purpose.

How to Read These Terms

We've separated these terms into four parts:

  • PART A: Terms for when you buy Products
  • PART B: Terms for when you browse and interact with this Website
  • PART C: Delivery, Risk of Loss, and Your Responsibilities
  • PART D: Liability, warranties, and legal provisions

Please don't continue using this Website or purchase any Products unless you have read and agree to these terms.

PART A — FOR WHEN YOU BUY PRODUCTS

1. SUBMITTING AN ORDER

(a) By submitting an order for purchase of a Product using the Website's functionality (Order) you represent and warrant that:

  • (i) you have the legal capacity and are of sufficient age (18+) to enter into a binding contract with us; and
  • (ii) you are authorised to use the debit or credit card or payment method you provide with your Order.

(b) Submitting an Order constitutes your offer to enter into these terms where we will provide you with the Products in exchange for payment.

(c) These terms are not agreed until we approve your payment and you receive an email confirming your order is being processed.

(d) We reserve the right to decline any order for any reason, including stock unavailability, pricing errors, suspected fraud, or delivery restrictions.

2. PRODUCTS

(a) Descriptions: We endeavour to ensure Products match Website displays. Due to screen display, colour, brightness, and image quality, Products may not exactly match images.

(b) Specifications: Unless otherwise agreed in writing, we make no guarantees about:

  • (i) the specific material composition (e.g., type of steel or alloy);
  • (ii) the exact manufacturing location beyond what is stated on the product page.

(c) Size: Sizes listed are as specified by manufacturers. You must check sizes before purchasing. You may be liable for shipping fees for size-related exchanges.

(d) Handedness: Unless otherwise clearly specified on the product page, all scissors are right-handed. Left-handed models are clearly marked. Ordering the incorrect handedness does not constitute a product fault.

3. PAYMENT

Prices on the UK store are based in GBP. Confirm the final total, currency, discounts, delivery charge and available payment methods at checkout before authorising payment. Use the provider terms shown for that transaction. We do not guarantee that every wallet, instalment service or trade-credit arrangement is available.

Our published company information explains the current import arrangement and commercial invoices. We handle the stated UK import duties and taxes. We do not describe ourselves as UK VAT registered or promise a UK VAT invoice. If we identify a pricing error, we will contact you to agree a correction or cancel and refund the affected order.

4. CHANGES, CANCELLATION AND RETURNS

Contact us promptly if you need to change or cancel an order before dispatch. If dispatch has already occurred, your applicable cancellation and statutory rights remain available.

Your right to cancel an online consumer order

Tell us that you wish to cancel within 14 days after delivery. You then have a further 14 days from telling us to send the goods back. You do not have to give a reason. These rights apply to sale and clearance items too.

Email support@japanscissors.co.uk with your order number and the items you wish to return. We will provide the correct return address and instructions for your order. Please do not send goods to a correspondence or billing address without those instructions.

Inspecting and returning your scissors

You may handle the goods as you reasonably would in a shop to establish their nature, characteristics and functioning. Keep the packaging and accessories where possible and pack the blades safely. We may deduct an amount for diminished value caused by handling beyond what is necessary; there is no automatic restocking fee for exercising your statutory cancellation right. Using scissors for customer haircuts may go beyond necessary inspection, but does not automatically remove all statutory rights.

You pay the direct cost of returning a change-of-mind order. Choose a suitable tracked service and keep proof of posting. Contact us about faulty, damaged or incorrect goods so we can arrange an appropriate return at our expense.

Refunds

For a valid cancellation, we refund the goods and the cost of our least expensive standard delivery option. If you chose a more expensive service, the additional delivery cost is not refundable under the cancellation right. We use the original payment method unless you agree otherwise, without a refund fee.

We refund without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we receive the returned goods or you provide evidence that you sent them back, whichever is earlier. We may withhold the refund until one of those events occurs. Your bank or payment provider may then take additional time to show the credit.

Exceptions and faulty goods

The change-of-mind right can have legal exceptions, including goods made to your specifications or clearly personalised. Any exception must actually apply to your order; a sale label or an opened ordinary scissor box alone does not create an exception.

For consumer purchases, goods must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 can give a short-term right to reject faulty goods within 30 days, followed by repair, replacement or other remedies as the law provides. A legal time limit for bringing a claim is not a six-year product warranty. Manufacturer warranties are separate and do not replace statutory rights.

Tell us about a problem promptly, with your order number and a description; photos can help. A request for photos or a quick report does not remove your statutory rights. We will assess faults individually, including whether damage results from misuse or normal wear.

Exchanges and help

Ask us about an exchange and availability before posting. You do not have to accept store credit instead of a statutory refund. For warranty or care questions, see our warranty and support guide. Nothing on this page limits your legal rights.

5. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

(a) We retain all intellectual property rights in Product designs, labelling, and packaging.

(b) You must not copy, reproduce, manufacture or commercialise our Products or branding.

6. THIRD PARTY SUPPLIERS

(a) We may outsource services or procure from third parties without notice.

(b) To the maximum extent permitted by law, we're not liable for third party acts or omissions beyond our reasonable control.

7. DISCOUNT CODES

Discount Codes:

  • Cannot be applied retrospectively to completed orders
  • Are non-transferrable and single-use unless stated otherwise
  • Cannot be redeemed for cash
  • May have minimum spend requirements, product exclusions, or expiry dates
  • Cannot be combined with other offers unless expressly stated

8. RATINGS & REVIEWS

(a) Reviews must be true, fair and accurate.

(b) You may only review Products you've purchased.

(c) We reserve the right to remove any review that is false, misleading, defamatory, or off-topic.

PART B — FOR WHEN YOU BROWSE THIS WEBSITE

  • maintaining Account security and password confidentiality;
  • all activities that occur through your Account.

(e) We may suspend or cancel Accounts at our discretion if we suspect misuse or breach of these terms.

12. INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE

We don't guarantee that:

  • the Website will be error-free or uninterrupted;

We reserve the right to change information without notice.

13. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

(a) We retain ownership of all Website Content including text, images, graphics, logos, and software.

(b) You may view for personal use only. Don't reproduce, distribute, or modify without our written permission.

14. THIRD PARTY TERMS

Shopify, the payment method you choose and the carrier used for your order may have applicable service terms. Those terms do not remove our obligations to you or your mandatory consumer rights.

15. LINKS TO OTHER WEBSITES

We're not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of linked third-party websites. Links do not imply endorsement.

16. SECURITY

We don't accept responsibility for viruses or electronic damage arising from your use of the Website. Take your own precautions including maintaining up-to-date antivirus software.

17. REPORTING MISUSE

Report any misuse of this Website immediately to support@japanscissors.co.uk

PART C — DELIVERY, RISK OF LOSS, AND YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

18. SHIPPING AND DELIVERY

UK delivery options and prices

Option Order value Delivery charge
Standard with tracking Below £40 £7
Free standard with tracking £40 or more Free
Express with tracking Any order value £7

These are the current UK options. Eligibility and the final delivery charge for your address and discounted basket are shown at checkout before payment. At £40 or more, select the free standard option if that is your preference.

Processing, dispatch and delivery estimates

In-stock orders are normally processed in 1–2 business days. This is processing time, not a guaranteed arrival date. On-order or pre-order products follow the availability information on the individual product page; contact us before ordering if you need a particular date.

Orders are dispatched from Australia or Japan. Delivery estimates depend on the product, service and destination. Check any estimate shown before payment and in your order confirmation, or ask us for the current estimate. Carrier, customs and public-holiday delays can affect estimates. This does not limit your legal rights concerning delivery.

Tracking and address details

We email tracking details when your order ships. Our couriers can include FedEx and DHL; the service for your order is confirmed with dispatch. Provide a full street address, flat or unit number and postcode. Check whether your selected carrier serves your address; a PO box may not be suitable.

Contact support@japanscissors.co.uk promptly if an address needs changing. We will try to help before dispatch, but cannot guarantee a redirection after handover to a carrier.

Customs and import charges

Our UK store’s stated arrangement is delivery with import duties and taxes handled by us. If a carrier unexpectedly asks you to pay an import charge, contact us with the request before paying so we can investigate. For company and invoice information, see our company details.

Missing, damaged or disputed deliveries

For consumer orders, risk remains with us until you, or a person you identify to receive the goods, takes physical possession, subject to the legal exception for a carrier independently commissioned by you. A depot collection notice or a tracking scan alone does not automatically transfer risk or settle a delivery dispute.

If tracking says delivered but you cannot find the parcel, check with your household, reception, nominated neighbour and any agreed delivery location, then contact us. We will investigate with the carrier and consider all available evidence. We do not automatically classify every missing parcel as theft or refuse every refund because of a delivery scan.

If goods arrive damaged or are incorrect, keep the packaging, take photos if possible and contact us promptly. A request to report quickly is not a 48-hour limit on statutory rights. We will arrange the remedy required in the circumstances.

Optional parcel protection, if offered at checkout, does not replace our legal obligations. You do not have to buy extra cover to retain your consumer rights. Tell us if you cannot collect a parcel or wish to cancel so we can explain the next steps and any lawful return costs.

Need help?

Email support@japanscissors.co.uk with your order number. For cancellation, returns and refund deadlines, read Returns and refunds.

19. RISK AND DELIVERY EVIDENCE

For consumer orders, risk passes when you or a person you identify takes physical possession, subject to the statutory exception for a carrier independently commissioned by you. Neither a depot collection notice nor a tracking scan alone automatically settles risk or a disputed delivery. We consider the actual circumstances and delivery evidence.

20. DELIVERY ISSUES

Contact support@japanscissors.co.uk if an order is missing, misdelivered, damaged or delayed. We will investigate with the carrier and provide the remedy required by the circumstances and your legal rights. Keep photos and packaging where possible. Please report problems promptly; this does not impose a 48-hour limit on statutory rights. If goods are returned because an address is incorrect or a parcel is uncollected, we will explain any lawful direct costs and applicable cancellation rights rather than automatically forfeiting a refund.

21. OPTIONAL PARCEL PROTECTION

If optional protection is offered, review its separate terms before purchasing. It does not replace our delivery obligations or reduce your statutory rights if you decline it. Contact us for help with a delivery problem whether or not you bought additional cover. Any cancellation or fee treatment for a separate protection service remains subject to applicable law and the actual contract.

PART D — LIABILITY AND OTHER LEGAL TERMS

22. LIABILITY AND CONSUMER RIGHTS

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits mandatory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 or other applicable law. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

We are responsible for foreseeable loss caused by our breach of contract or failure to use reasonable care and skill. You must use the products safely and provide accurate order information. Optional parcel insurance does not affect our legal obligations.

23. FORCE MAJEURE

Neither party is liable for failure or delay in performing obligations due to circumstances beyond reasonable control, including:

  • acts of God, natural disasters, severe weather;
  • war, terrorism, civil unrest, strikes;
  • government actions, customs delays, regulatory changes;
  • pandemic or epidemic;
  • postal or courier service disruptions;
  • power failures, telecommunications outages, cyberattacks;
  • supplier failures or material shortages.

24. NOTICES

Notices must be in writing via email:

  • To us: support@japanscissors.co.uk
  • To you: your registered email address or the email provided with your order

Notice is deemed given 24 hours after sending unless a bounce-back is received.

25. GENERAL PROVISIONS

25.1 GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION

These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia. However, UK consumers retain all protections under UK consumer law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Disputes may be brought in UK or Australian courts at your election.

25.2 DISPUTE RESOLUTION

If you have a complaint, please contact us first at support@japanscissors.co.uk. We are committed to resolving issues promptly and fairly.

UK consumers may also use:

  • Citizens Advice consumer helpline
  • UK courts

25.3 WAIVER

No waiver of any right under these terms is effective unless in writing and signed. A waiver applies only to the specific circumstances for which it is given.

25.4 SEVERANCE

If any provision of these terms is found invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be severed and the remainder will continue in full force and effect.

25.5 ASSIGNMENT

You cannot assign your rights under these terms without our written consent. We may assign our rights to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of our business.

25.6 ENTIRE AGREEMENT

These terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any order confirmation, constitute the entire agreement between us regarding your purchase and use of our Website.
